MEDIUM: Corel Painter 8
DATE COMPLETED: 1.15.09 LAST UPDATE: 6.21.09 Although I've always found Padme to be one of the more annoying Star Wars leading ladies (too sappy for my tastes), Natalie Portman has a classic beauty that I can't ignore; this painting is based on one of my favorite photos of her which I feel embodies her timeless allure. I wanted to try a different digital style here compared to what I've been doing. Many of the digital paintings that I've always loved have a quality to them that almost makes it look like they were done in traditional media--That's sort of what I was going for here. I wanted the strokes of the pastel brush to be obvious and not so well-blended. Whether I made it look good or not I guess is up to the viewer. Comments

Instant fave. I can't believe you pulled that off in a 'couple hours'. Put the less efficient of us to shame, why don't you?   Haha, it's funny, 'cause many years ago (when I was more into photoshop painting) I started painting this very picture and never really finished it.
 I think it's beautiful, specially her gorgeous hair. You really did a great job here, my only advice really would be to tone down the shadows in the corners of her mouth, just a little, to make the expression more soft and, well, Padme like.  (Btw, I really like Padme, but I guess it's mostly because of her freaking gorgeous outfits!!! .... I'm so shallow)  Just beautiful!

  Nice brushstrokes here. I like it when you can see the work was painted, not just smoothed out to look super-realistic.
Corel Painter X has a new brush called 'Real Bristle' that looks something like this.. Maybe you'd like it. Thanks for the info! I'd definitely like to upgrade to Painter X at some point.
